WebSpringer features

These are the main features currently available with WebSpringer:

  • Using the start-up wizard, a new website can be created in minutes. Designs, colours, menus, page styles, etc. are selected from templates and can be changed at any time.
  • Supporting each website is a catalogued library of pictures, documents and multimedia content, all of which can be easily uploaded from users’ computers. A shared library provides a basic stock of photographs and images.
  • WebSpringer the easy creation and maintenance of many types of pages. These are linked either from a menu or from individual pages:
    • A home page with rolling news, diary and links
    • A range of “standard” page types offering different combinations of text and pictures, including a “freeform” page with a built-in HTML editor
    • Photograph galleries with auto slide shows
    • Interactive discussion forums - open or private
    • Contact pages that hide your email address
    • Document libraries
    • Multimedia (video and audio) streaming pages
  • Instant and secure online administration and editing; editors do not need any special software other than a web browser.
  • Users can optionally register and log-in. This allows defined pages to be viewed only to those authorised.
  • Accessibility standards: all pages can be transformed instantly into a large, monochrome font readable by people with visual impairment. Also pages can be sent automatically to speech synthesisers and screen readers.
  • The comprehensive user handbook is accessible online as both a learning and help tool.
  • Allows email accounts to be set up and managed, with “Hotmail” style access available from anywhere in the world.
  • Websites can each have their own domain name.
  • Metadata to allow the website to be found by search engines (keywords, title, description) can be entered simply.
  • Additional features available to clusters of sites include the creation of a “portal” site including shared news, advertising, cluster-wide search, etc.
